History of BMW
BMW was established through a merger of three companies; Rapp Motorenweke, Bayersiche Flugzeugweke and Fahrzeugfabrik; which became Bayerische Motren Werke GmbH in 1917. But the German manufacturer didn´t start producing cars right away, instead they produced aircraft engines to be used in the First World War.
After WW1, they went on to manufacture household items, railway brakes and farm equipment. Then finally, as the Treaty of Versailles relaxed, they began to produce motorcycles in 1920, and finally cars in 1928.
As WW2 struck, BMW showed their support by producing aircraft engines and, despite this contribution making their factories a target for allied bombings, they made it out the other side.
The years following the Second World War were lack-lustre and uneventful for BMW. They were producing high-quality components, but they were yet to find a unique flare and style that set them apart from the rest. That was, until the 1960´s rolled by and the New Klasse of BMW´s sports sedans were born.
Since then, BMW has grown from strength to strength, establishing itself as producer of luxurious and lively sports cabriolets.
