History of BMW
BMW was first established in 1917, through a merger between Rapp Motorenweke, Bayersiche Flugzeugweke and Fahrzeugfabrik. The acronym stands for Bayerische Motren Werke GmbH, but in the early days, BMW looked very different to the brand we know and love today.
Instead of cars, BMW were originally manufacturing railway brakes, home appliances, farm equipment and aircraft engines through WW1 and WW2. Despite this contribution to the war effort making the BMW factory a target for allied bombings, the German manufacturer made it out the other side and continued to grow in success.
BMW´s first car officially left the production line in 1928 and they continued to develop new models after the war, but it wasn´t until the 1960´s that they really found their stride and the New Klasse of BMW´s sports cars were born.
Since then, BMW has grown into the international renowned, modern manufacturer we see today, establishing itself as a producer of high-tech, high-performance sports cars.
